Twirly: Spanish surrealist Salvador Dali sporting the 'tache that topped the poll
The Spanish surrealist's twirly 'tache was way ahead in the poll of 14,000 men.
The artist, who was famous for his paintings of melted clocks and dream-like landscapes, died in 1989 - but his moustache was still regarded as the most famous by a quarter of those surveyed.
In second place was 1990s wrestler Hulk Hogan, whose 'handlebar' moustache is instantly recognised by sports fans the world over.
He was followed by genius Albert Einstein, while former England cricketer Ian Botham came in at tenth place - with a paltry one per cent of votes.
The survey was carried out by MSN Him as part of 'Movember' month.
Last year the campaign raised £26million - and saw thousands of men sporting silly moustaches throughout the month of November.
'Handlebar': Hulk Hogan with daughter Brooke.
The wrestler came second in the poll, conducted as part of the
'Movember' charity event for prostate cancer
